KADAPA: The Government proposed to set up 100 ashram schools and 50 residential schools for Scheduled Tribes in the State, Minister for Social Welfare and Tribal Welfare D.S. Redya Naik said on Tuesday. Speaking at a gram sabha under Indiramma scheme at Akepadu village in Rajampet mandal, the Minister said the scheme mainly envisaged improvement in living conditions of the people. The Government decided to start 50 new ST hostels and sanctioned 53 primary health centres in agency areas, besides filling up 50 vacant doctor posts, he said. He promised remunerative prices for forest produce collected by girijans in the State. The tribal welfare budget was enhanced from Rs. 344 crores to Rs. 644 crores. Fifty two per cent of the outlay would be earmarked for improving education facilities in agency areas and the remaining 48 per cent to laying roads, building school buildings and improving amenities in hostels, he said. The Government sanctioned Rs. 140 crores through TRIKAR for tribal welfare.
