Four-member gang loots three houses

Escapes with cash, jewellery, silk sarees

ANANTAPUR: A four-member gang looted three houses at Kanekal in the district in the wee hours of Tuesday. In all, they ran away with Rs. 32,800 cash, 130 grams of gold jewellery and a few silk sarees.

According to the police, the gang first entered the locked house of one Sattar by breaking open the latches. All the Sattar family members were out of station. They took away an almirah to a nearby tank and broke it open, only to find a few sarees in it. They threw the almirah into the tank.

Later, they went to the house of P. Thammanna, a milk vendor and woke up the family on the pretext that their neighbour urgently required a matchbox. At knifepoint the robbers took away Rs. 800 cash and 30 grams of jewellery from the family and locked them from outside before moving on to the next house.

Then they woke up one Ramaswamy sleeping on the verandah of a house located just 200 meters from the previous one, and at knife point forced the old man to wake up his son Ramakrishna and daughter-in-law Lakshmi.

They looted took away Rs. 32,000 cash and 100 grams of gold jewellery from their almirah. The farmer had the cash at home as he had sold his Bengal gram produce at Bellary on Monday.

In their complaint to the police the victims said that all the four youth were wearing masks and speaking the local language.
