Easy win for Friends United

Hyderabad: Friends United Football Club scored a 4-1 win over Unity Sports Club in the quarterfinals of the 10th Bolarum Challenge Cup football tournament. Walid, Hassan, Alauddin and Ghouse were the scorers for the winner, while Inderpaul reduced the margin.

Double for SCR

South Central Railway bagged a `double' winning the men and women's titles in the Hyderabad district annual basketball league championship here on Tuesday.

SCR men defeated AOC Centre 84-73 while women got the better of Sanathnagar Playground 55-27.

The scores (Women): SCR 55 (Jetty Jose 17, Binu Francis 15) bt Sanathnagar PG 27.

Men: SCR 84 (Pankaj Yadav 19, Vishal Kumar 12, Vinay Yadav 22, Liju Abraham 16) bt AOC Centre 73 (Siva Nagaraju 22, Rajesh 18, British Babu 16, Bharadwaj 13).

AG HP triumphs

AG Himachal Pradesh defeated AG Karnataka 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 in the preliminary round of the IA & AD inter-zonal volleyball tournament. Earlier, Sudarshana Talapatra, AG (C&RA), AP, inaugurated the event.

The results: AG Himachal Pradesh bt AG Karnataka 25-17, 25-18, 25-22; AG Andhra Pradesh bt AG Maharashtra 25-15, 25-17, 25-14; AG West Bengal bt AG Rajasthan 25-12, 25-17, 24-25, 25-13.

Musheerabad posts win

Musheerabad Playground scored a 25-15, 25-16 win over YMCA Hyderabad in the MCH annual open volleyball tournament at the Victory Playground here. In another match, Manjumia ka Tabela recorded a 25-22, 25-18 win over Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar Playground.

Veterans' National table tennis

The 13th National veterans' table tennis championships for men and women will be organised at the Fateh Maidan Indoor Stadium here from February 8 to 12, according to Shyamlal Asrani, president of APVTTA. Competitions will be held in team and individual events for both sections with 43 teams in the fray in all four categories.

The meet assumes significance, as the Indian team for the World veterans' championship to be held in Germany this May will be picked here. N.Ganeshan, international referee from Kerala, will be the chief referee. Minister for Labour & Employment G. Vinod will inaugurate the event on Wednesday at 10.30 a.m.
