Solitary goal win for HAL

Sports Reporter

BANGALORE: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) maintained its unbeaten run. It defeated a mediocre Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) 1-0 in the George Hoover Cup senior division football league.

A Rajendra Prasad volley, following a fine cross from the right by Sunil, shook the upright in the 32 minute.

After the change of ends, Kenneth Onu did make a few runs down the middle but failed to put the finishing touches while substitute Kattimani failed to reach out to a Nanda Kumar square from the right.

Xavier Vijaykumar was sorely missed by HAL who were reduced to 10 men when wing back Sreekant was shown his second `yellow' card for rough tackling, which automatically warranted a `red'.

CIL did make desperate substitutions to gain the equaliser but never really threatened Gumpe Rime under the HAL bar.

HAL has 11 points from five matches (three wins and two draws) and share the top spot with MEG & Centre, while CIL crashed to its third defeat in six matches, after having won two and drawn the other.

Easy for Southern Blues

Southern Blues seems to be riding high in the A division league played earlier. Its 7-3 win over Dharmaraja Union, was its sixth in seven outings having suffered its lone defeat to Postal. Damodaran (3), Vivek, Satish, Bhuwaneshwar and Raju were the goal-getters for Southern Blues while Yoganandan (2) and Rajan Wilfy netted for Dharmaraja Union.

Both the C division matches were walk overs. While the Goans got a walkover from Jolly Brothers, BHEL (EDN) got full points without taking the field against ITC.

Thilak and Sasi excel

Thilak Naidu's unbeaten 86 and Sasi Kumar's 70 guided State Bank of Mysore (SBM) to a four-wicket victory over Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) in a YSR Memorial Trophy tournament match. Earlier RWF scored 267 with Rakshan Rai chipping in a 94. However the total proved inadequate as SBM won in 47.2 overs.

The scores: RWF 267 in 49.5 overs (Rakshan Rai 94, Shoaib Manager 56, Deepu 41) lost to

SBM 271 for 6 in 47.2 overs (Thilak Nadu 86 n.o., Sasi Kumar 70).

Jawahar SC 335 for 5 in 50 overs (KC Avinash 113) bt Duleep Cricketers 131in 31 overs.

SJR College of Law wins

SJR College of Law snatched a nine-run victory over hosts M.S. Ramaiah College of Law in a Inter Law Colleges cricket tournament match here recently. SJRCL powered by K. Prabhu's 62, scored 149 and later restricted MSRCL to 140 for eight in 25 overs.

The scores: SJRCL 149 in 23.4 overs (K. Prabhu 62, Partha four for 16) bt MSRCL 140 for eight in 25 overs.

BMSCL 212 for three in 24 overs (Bagarith 60) bt BILS 153 in 22 overs.
