Assam under threat, says former official

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The illegal immigration of Bangladeshi nationals into Assam has affected the social, political and cultural atmosphere of the State, H.K. Bhattacharyya, former IPS official and novelist from the State, has said.

He was delivering a lecture on `Save eastern India', organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad here on Tuesday.

According to him, the immigration problem had become a question of `life and death' there. "Our campaign is not against any particular community, but against the immigrants," he said. — Staff Reporter
