NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notice to the Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police on a contempt of court petition filed by the Delhi police. It alleged that the STF was continuing with the investigation into the phone tapping case involving Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh despite a stay on the same by the High Court. Justice R.C. Jain directed the respondent to file a reply to the contempt petition by February 8. Delhi Government Standing Counsel Mukta Gupta alleged that the STF was investigating the case despite the stay. While permitting the STF to collect documents relating to the tapping of Mr. Amar Singh's phone from the nodal agency Reliance Infocomm, the High Court on January 25 said the stay order restraining the Uttar Pradesh police from conducting investigation into the case would continue. Orders on two separate petitions by the Delhi police and Anurag Singh, one of the accused in the case, urging the Court to restrain the Uttar Pradesh police from proceeding with investigation into the case, are reserved. The Delhi police argued that the Uttar Pradesh police had no locus to investigate the case as the cause of action took place here and they (Delhi police) had already registered cases and made arrests in the matter.
