Workshops for teachers

CHENNAI: The English Language Teachers' Association of India will organise its annual conference in association with the British Council, American Language Centre and Ethiraj College on February 10 and 11. Various workshops will cover techniques for developing English-speaking skills. Registration fee is Rs. 400.

Eye, dental camp

Singhvi Charitable Trust conducted a free eye and dental camp at Government Middle School in Tiruvallur on February 5. Over 400 persons were screened and medicines and spectacles were distributed. In another eye camp held at Singhvi Diagnostic Centre in Triplicane last week, over 100 persons were screened for eye-related problems.

Eye check-up

The Centre for the Welfare of the Aged and Udhi Eye Hospital jointly organised a free eye camp for senior citizens at Hanumanthapuram in Triplicane on February 5. Over 100 persons were screened for various eye ailments and 26 referred for free cataract operations.

Road safety programme

The Interact club of Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School and State Bank Retired and Serving Employees' Forum recently conducted a road safety awareness programme. Deputy Commissioner of Police V. Baladandayuthapani spoke and gave away prizes to winners in an oratorical competition on `Road Safety and Traffic Rules.'

NSS camp

The NSS unit of Agurchand Manmull Jain College conducted a special camp at Panruti in Kancheepuram. Over 150 volunteers participated in infrastructure development activities and conducted awareness programmes for villagers near the camp area.

Treating influenza

Chennai Medical College in association with Solvay Pharma will conduct an `influenza camp' on February 24 at Adiparasakthi Clinic on Flowers Road in Kilpauk from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Registration fee is Rs. 30.

Asan Alumni Association will have a family meet at Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School on Anderson Road on February 12 between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sporting events and games are being organised for all Asanites, their spouses and children.
