Mumbai: Noted painter M.F. Husain, against whom a case was filed on the charge of hurting the religious sentiments of people by painting gods in nude, on Tuesday apologised and promised to withdraw from an auction a painting depicting ``Bharat Mata'' in an obscene manner. Following protests from the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS) and VHP against Mr. Husain displaying the painting on websites and in an exhibition in New Delhi, the painter said he apologised to the people for the same and promised to withdraw the auction of the picture. ``The proceeds of the auction are said to be utilised for the victims of Kashmir earthquake,'' the HJS said here in a release and demanded immediate, strong action against him. The HJS has also filed a case with the Mumbai and Thane police and appealed to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take action against such ``anti-national and perverse attitude of great aritists'', Ramesh Shinde, HJS spokesperson said. Reacting to his apology, the VHP national coordinator Venkytesh Abdev said, ``Mr. Husain has been doing this for the last so many years and every time he apologises and goes scot-free.
