Yediyurappa criticised

Staff Correspondent

UDUPI: The district unit of the Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike has criticised the removal of the portrait of B.R. Ambedkar from the chamber of Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, the vedike's central committee secretary Sanatkumar Belagali said that with this act, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slighted Ambedkar, who gave Dalits a sense of self-respect.

He said protests by the vedike will continue till Mr. Yediyurappa apologises for the incident.

The vedike criticised the Janata Dal (Secular) for joining hands with the BJP "for the sake of power." This alliance smacks of opportunism.

It will only give an upper hand to communal forces in the State. It is a paradox that the Janata Dal (S) has given up its secular principles, Mr. Belagali said.

Vedike president Janardhan Bhandarkar, vice-president U. Vanajakshi, general secretary Sriram Divana, and honorary president Baikady Hussain Saheb were present.
