PUTTUR: A bullet tanker that overturned at the Kurumeru curve on the Bangalore-Mangalore National Highway 48 brought traffic to a standstill on Tuesday. As liquefied petroleum gas started leaking from the tanker, police diverted traffic along other routes. Police said the accident took place when the tanker headed for Bangalore overturned while negotiating the curve. While vehicles coming to Mangalore were diverted via Gundya and Uppinangady, vehicles bound for Bangalore were diverted via Kadaba on the Gundya-Subramanya road. Mr. Rao said the road was opened for traffic in the evening after officials from Hindustan Petroleum and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. arrived at the scene and took control of the situation.
Killed
A sand-laden lorry ran over Kalandar Shafi (18), a resident of Boliyaru, near Adyar mosque on the Mangalore-Bangalore road on Monday. The victim was going to work with his father. The Mangalore Rural (Kankanady) police have registered a case.

Prabhakar Devadiga (35), a member of the Aladangady Gram Panchayat in Belthangady taluk, was killed when the autorickshaw he was driving and a tempo traveller collided near Keddu village near Aladangady on Monday. Belthangady police have registered a case.
Accident
A scooterist was killed when a tanker collided with his vehicle near Jeppinamogaru cross on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday. Police identified the victim as Devappa (44), hailing from Shiratti in Gadag. Mangalore rural police have registered a case.
