Buyer of stolen vehicles nabbed
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi) Sunil Garg, the police received a tip-off that Sanjay Sehgal, who bought stolen cars and sold them on the basis of particulars of old vehicles, would come to Sarai Rohilla Chowk on Monday. Subsequently, the police intercepted the Maruti car in which he was travelling. Investigations revealed that the vehicle bore the registration number of a car owned by one Satyapal that was damaged in an accident. During interrogation, Sanjay purportedly confessed to his involvement in selling at least five stolen vehicles. Mr. Garg said Sanjay would trace the vehicles damaged in accidents, buy them and sell them to junk dealers after retaining their registration papers. He would then buy vehicles -- of the same make and colour -- from an auto-lifter, Akhtar, and dispose them of. Efforts are on to arrest the auto-lifters, said Mr. Garg.
Out-of-turn promotion for constable
Dharam Pal has so far won 11 gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals in various horse-riding competitions. His horse "Paramveer" has also been declared the best horse. Some other policemen who also won medals at the Meet were presented commendation rolls and cash awards by Delhi Police Commissioner K.K. Paul on Monday.
`Criminal' escapes from court
The incident took place in the afternoon when the accused, Vipul, was being taken to the Tis Hazari courts for appearance in connection with a theft case. He somehow managed to free himself and vanished from the scene. Earlier, Vipul had been admitted to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital as he had sustained injuries while being arrested. A hunt has been launched for him.
Three held for chain snatching
The accused have been identified as Gaurav Gupta (21), Sachin Sharma (18) and Montu Chaudhary (18). During interrogation, they purportedly disclosed that they snatched chains to make quick money and lead a lavish lifestyle.
Auto-lifters arrested
According to the police, Ram Bilas (19) and Rati Pal (22) were arrested when they were riding a stolen motorcycle. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to having stolen the vehicle from Subhash Nagar Metro station the same day. Further probe into their other suspected involvements is on.
