Holiday for Passport office

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: the passport office, here, will remain closed on February 9, Thursday, on account of Muharram. This was informed by the passport officer, Thiruvananthapuram, R. C. Nair. — Staff Reporter

KSRTC employees to go on strike

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The employees of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation under the banner of the KSRTC joint action committee have given notice for strike, a press note issued here on Tuesday said. The employees are demanding the rescinding of the decision to privatise nationalised bus routes, the retention of the KSRTC in the public sector, immediate disbursal of DA arrears, salary revision and interim relief. The employees will go on strike from February 23. The employees also held a demonstration before handing over the strike notice to the KSRTC managing director K. P. Somarajan, the press note added. — Staff Reporter

Telecom adalat

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Principal General Manager BSNL will hold a telecom adalat in March. Those who submit complaints will be informed in writing about the date and time of the adalat if their complaints are found to fall within the purview of the adalat. Complainants should write down their complaint in detail along with necessary documents and sent it to K.V.A. Ilayathu, AGM (OP) BSNL Bhavan, Uppalam road Statue. It should be clearly superscribed on the envelope that the complaint is being sent for the adalat, a press note issued here on Tuesday said. — Staff Reporter

Shiva Sena activists hold dharna

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Activists of the Shiva Sena held a dharna in front of the office of the superintendent of the Medical College Hospital to press for a solution to the problems faced by the Hospital. Shiva Sena leaders who spoke on the occasion said the trauma care unit that cost crores of rupees to set up should be made functional immediately. They also called for the immediate modernisation of the scanning and x-ray laboratories at the Hospital, a press note issued here today said. — Staff Reporter

Legal aid programme

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Legal Services Authority and Abhaya will jointly organise a free legal aid programme for women on every second Saturday at `Athani' centre for women on the Vanchiyoor-Pattoor road. Eminent lawyers will study the cases brought by women and will advise them on how to proceed on the matter.

If necessary the lawyers will also represent the women in court. The aid programme for this month will be held on Saturday 11, a press note issued here on Tuesday said. — Staff Reporter
