BANGALORE: Three persons were killed and four were injured when goods vehicle and a car collided on Varthur Road near Basavanagar Cross in the Airport traffic police limits on Monday night. Police said that while Uma Devi (50) and Venkatesh Babu (35) of Whitefield died while being taken to hospital, the car driver, Venkatesh (28), was declared dead at Manipal Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday. The injured have been shifted to Manipal hospital. The goods vehicle driver is absconding, police said. In another accident reported from the Talaghattapura police station limits, a pedestrian, Chinnadorai (23), was knocked down by a truck on Monday evening at Udipalya on Kanakapura Road. In the third incident, a mini bus rammed a stationary truck at Billakempanahalli on Mysore Road, killing the lorry cleaner Shivanna (23) on the spot in the Ramanagara traffic police limits on the outskirts of the city. In the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 15 passengers of the mini bus escaped with minor injuries.
Two arrested
Sleuths of the Central Crime Branch arrested Nazeer Ahmed (35) of Padarayanapura and Mohammed Azeem (62) on charges of selling beedis using the brand name of "S.K. Beedis" without authorisation by the company. Beedis worth about Rs. 10,000 were seized from their possession, police said.
