Gulbarga: Members of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest in Gulbarga on Wednesday against the alleged removal of Ambedkar's portrait from the chamber of Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. The protestors formed a "human chain" and stopped traffic for over an hour. They shouted slogans against Mr. Yediyurappa, branding him "anti-Dalit" and "anti-people". Mr. Yediyurappa should resign from the Ministry and from the membership of the Assembly. "Those who have no respect for the framer of the Constitution, have no faith in that sacred text. Such people should not occupy positions of power in a democracy. They should migrate to countries where dictators rule," DSS state convenor D.G. Sagar said in his address to the protestors. CPI (M) district general secretary Maruti Manpade said his fears that the BJP was anti-poor had come true. "BJP leaders, including Mr. Yediyurappa, have shown that they cannot tolerate even Ambedkar's portrait in their chambers for a day. They will take anti-Dalit steps if allowed to continue in Government for a full term," Mr. Manpade said. They threatened to organise agitations across the country, even if Mr. Yediyurappa continued as Deputy Chief Minster even for a day. Suresh Hadimani, A.B. Hosmani and Arjun Bhadre led the strike.
