KOLLAM: The big guns Tamil Nadu, Major Ports, Kerala and Indian Railways warmed up for the tougher battles with crushing wins in the league matches of the men's section in the 51st senior National ball badminton championships at the QAC courts here on Wednesday. Tamil Nadu, the defending champion, recorded its second straight win in pool A beating Madhya Pradesh 29-1, 29-14. But the lowly MP caught the holder off guard in the second set when it rallied well and made things tougher for Tamil Nadu. After pocketing the first set rather easily (29-1), Tamil Nadu was sitting pretty with a 9-1 lead when MP fought back to reduce the lead to 9-8. However, the holder shrugged off the complacency and reduced the errors to romp home. In the morning Tamil Nadu had it easy against Chandigarh 29-6, 29-2. Major Ports, Kerala and Railways also recorded easy wins in their respective pools in the men's section. In the women's section, defending champion Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka got their campaign off to winning start.
