KOZHIKODE: St. Mary's College, Sulthan Bathery, has got B+ grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). A three-member NACC team which visited the college on October 3 and 4 last year assessed the various facilities and recommended B plus grade (80 per cent). The college was started by Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in 1985, a time when people of Wayanad district had to go to Kozhikode or Mysore, more than 100 km away, for college education, said Thomas Paul, Principal. The college now has 10 degree courses and four PG courses. A total of 60 teachers and 41 non-teachers are working in the college, NAAC coordinator at the college P.Varghese Vaidyan said. A total of 1,069 students study at the college, which is affiliated to the Calicut University. The college library, which has 32,000 books and 60 journals, has been fully computerised. The college has an internet café, telephone booth, basket ball court, cricket pitch, tourism club, science forum, leadership academy, youth red cross, OISCA save green club, energy conservation club, music club, health club, units of NSS and NCC, and special coaching classes for students belonging to minority and SC\ST communities. Separate hostel facilities for boys and girls and a separate PG hostel for girls exist in the college. The college also boasts a botanical garden, herbal garden and a green house.
