VHP to build a Hindu vote bank

May set up independent candidates in polls: Pravin Togadia

NEW DELHI: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has declared its intention of building a Hindu vote bank committed to a Hindu agenda. It will be good if it can get any national political party to endorse its agenda — it has expectations from the Bharatiya Janata Party led by Rajnath Singh — but if not, it may set up independent candidates in polls.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, VHP leader Pravin Togadia indicated that by 2007 a massive agitation would be built up. "Over 90 per cent of Hindus are religious; we will convert that religiosity into a Hindu vote bank," he said. In every Assembly constituency, 10,000 to 15,000 people and in every Lok Sabha constituency, at least 50,000 people would be mobilised on the Hindu agenda and they will be asked to take an oath to support that agenda."
