Mumbai: Select umpires would be offered an annual retainership from the 2006-07 season. The BCCI's Umpires' Committee, which met here on Wednesday, also proposed a revision in match fee per day from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000.
Some of the other decisions taken were: to introduce a fast track system to encourage the retired first class cricketers to look at umpiring as a career option, to conduct a qualifying examination (in June-July 2006) for retired first class cricketers in the under 45 age group and to review the present panel of BCCI Umpires at the conclusion of the 2005-06 season.
