Coimbatore: The Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangham has decided to contest the elections in alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. This is to protest the "anti-farmer" policies of the Centre, Sangham State president M.R. Sivasamy, told reporters here on Wednesday. It would contest a "respectable number" of seats. He said the AIADMK, during its five-year rule, had continued with the free power supply to farmers. Despite constraints, it had taken farmer friendly measures by waiving the Rs 1,400 crore co-operative crop loans, announcing Rs 1,014 as minimum procurement price for sugarcane and introducing farmers' protection schemes. In addition, the State had urged the Centre to grant Rs 4,625 crore assistance from the Natural Calamity Fund for waiving farmers' loans in the wake of the unprecedented floods.
