Broadband network to link all panchayats

Special Correspondent

Rajasthan is to set up a State-wide broadband wireless

JAIPUR: Rajasthan is to set up a State-wide broadband wireless network linking all the panchayats. It will be the first in the country to have a State-wide deployment of wireless broadband infrastructure.

The equipment being used for the network is MOTOwi4 Canopy. According to Motorola, the company providing the equipment, the State Government has started taking delivery of the same. The new technology would facilitate intercommunication among the panchayats and 10,000-odd villages in Rajasthan, including video, voice and data sharing.

The Motorola MOTOwi4 Canopy network will be the wireless backbone or the grid system, designed to connect the villages and facilitate better administration and management. The network also would help to enhance disaster management capabilities of the units involved both in terms of emergency preparedness as well as after impact, it is being pointed out.

"The MOTOwi4 Canopy network we are providing for Rajasthan is significant for a number of reasons. It is the first deployment of its kind involving a State-wide wireless broadband network anywhere in the country," said Motorola country president Firdose Vandrevala. The deployment would provide for high-speed connectivity to several rural locations where Internet penetration levels are virtually non-existent, he added.

Chambal Festival

The Chambal Adventure Festival, organised for the first time on the banks of Chambal river in Kota early this week, will be included in the tourism calendar of Rajasthan. The festival brought together rich cultural diversity, adventurous spirit and rustic charm of the desert State.

The Parliamentary Secretary in charge of the Chief Minister's public grievances redressal cell, Om Birla, participating in the two-day festival said the entire Hadoti region would soon emerge as a major centre of attraction for tourists. He said the festival's inclusion in the tourism calendar would also highlight the significance of Chambal as the lifeline of Hadoti region.

Mr. Birla flagged off a "run for water'' marathon on the occasion, while emphasising the need to adopt measures for conservation of water. Grammy award winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and folk singer Ghazi Khan presented a `jugalbandi' of classical and folk music.

Other features of the festival were folk dances, adventurous water sports, boat rides and air sports such as para sailing.

Kota Collector Niranjan Arya said the festival would help popularise the town as a new tourist destination and render help in the conservation of monuments and temples in the region.
