NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday indicated that it would monitor the progress of work on construction of a modern slaughter house at Ghazipur in East Delhi so that it is completed before the June 30 deadline fixed by the Court. A three-Judge Bench comprising Justice Ashok Bhan, Justice S.B. Sinha and Justice A.K. Mathur pulled up the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for not speeding up the construction despite an assurance given to the Court. When the counsel said that the MCD would set up a committee to monitor the progress of the work, the Bench said it would monitor the work as well as timely release of funds for the . The Bench found fault with the MCD for the delay in shifting the Idgah slaughter house from the Walled City area to Ghazipur. The judges took exception to the frequent change of lawyers by the MCD and said that it adversely affected the progress of the case. The Bench asked the MCD to file an additional affidavit by February 13 and posted the matter for hearing on February 14.
