BHOPAL: The Planning Commission has given its approval for raising Madhya Pradesh's 2006-07 Annual Plan limit from Rs. 8950 crores to Rs. 9020 crores. This marks a 21 per cent increase in the Plan size for the next fiscal.

Mr. Raghavji told newspersons that during discussions, the demand was raised for allocation of Rs. 100 crores

as Central assistance but the Planning Commission approved Rs. 80 crores instead. This includes Rs. 10 crores for building a memorial to the victims of the 1984 Union Carbide gas disaster.

Sixty-six per cent of this amount has been utilised in the first three years of the Tenth Plan.

Mr. Raghavji said the State Finance Department had given a detailed account of financial resources to the tune of Rs. 8802.75 crores to the State Finance Board. Keeping in view the State's financial resources, an Annual Plan for Rs. 8950 crores was prepared and sent to the Planning Commission for approval.

In the proposals submitted to the Commission by the State Government social services were at the top with a proposed Plan outlay of Rs. 2480.27 crores, followed by Irrigation and flood control (Rs. 1894.01crores), Rural Development (Rs. 1496 crores) and Energy (Rs. 1316 crores).

In the Annual Plan 2006-07, the Planning Commission has approved Rs. 1100 crores for School Education, Rs. 1894 crores for Irrigation, Rs. 1496 crores for Rural Development, and Rs. 1316 crores for Energy.
