Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Nungambakkam, Ayanavaram, Kondithope and Gummidipoondi on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Workshop on TB control

A workshop for non-government organisations on networking for TB control is being organised by REACH on February 28. Organisations with a strong community base and an interest in participating in TB control activities may register for the workshop with REACH over phone numbers 26282525/26280332/55211047 on or before February 25. IMFL shops to be closed on Saturday

Chennai collector N. Muruganandam has called for closure of all IMFL retail vending shops and attached bars in the district on Saturday in memory of Vadalur Ramalingar. If any violations are noticed, severe action shall be taken against the persons under the relevant rules, says a release from the office of the collector.

Eye camp

At a camp held in Irumbuliyur near Tambaram, 171 persons were screened for various eye ailments. Thirty-one were referred for free intraocular lens surgery. The camp was held on Wednesday by Hindu Mission Hospital.

Temples cleaned

About 60 SMILE volunteers supported the hundi counting at the Parthasarathi Swami temple in Triplicane and the Kaligambal temple in Thambu Chetti Street on Wednesday. The volunteers cleaned the Venugopalaswami temple at Gopalapuram and Durgai Amman temple on Whites Road.

The volunteers also conducted a free medical camp jointly with Ramakrishna Polytechnic, Tiruvottiyur for school children of the Panchayat Union Primary School at Manali. About 120 persons were screened and free medicines were distributed.

World Leprosy Day

Udhavum Ullangal, a charitable organisation, celebrated World Leprosy Day at Balaramapuram in Villivakkam on Sunday. Plastic mats and snacks were distributed to 100 families on behalf of the organisation. A. Prakasam, president of Leprosy Patients Rehabilitation Guild and Padma Venkataraman, honorary director, Leprosy Rehabilitation Project, WIA, participated.

Meet on Critical Care Medicine

Criticare Chennai 2006, the 12th annual conference of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine will commence in the city on Thursday. To be held at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and hospital, Porur, the conference presents three unique opportunities for knowledge enhancement: Educational track, fundamentals of disaster management and patient simulator workshop, Vijayalakshmi Kamat, organising chairperson of the conference said.
