NEW DELHI: Four alleged accomplices of Chhota Shakeel, the right-hand man of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who were involved in the conspiracy to eliminate the brother of a Bajrang Dal leader at Dwarka in South-West Delhi last year, have been arrested by the Special Cell. The accused had been assigned the task to identify and kill those who had purportedly burnt copies of the holy Quran. On February 5, a team comprising Inspectors Lalit Mohan and Hridaya Bhushan received a tip-off that three accomplices of Chhota Shakeel's henchman Tariq, who was arrested by the Special Cell in 2003 on charges of planning to kill Bajrang Dal leader Robin Singh, would pass by Yamuna Vihar in North-East Delhi. Subsequently, the police laid a trap and arrested them. They were identified as Mohammad Saleem, Rahis and Mohammad Vakil. During interrogation, Saleem allegedly confessed to having murdered Deepak, Robin's brother, who owned a chemist shop at Dwarka. At his instance, the police arrested Sahin Saifi, another accused in the murder case, following a brief exchange of fire near Ambedkar College on February 7. Sahin allegedly revealed that him, Saleem and one Javed had met Tariq in February last year. During that meeting, Tariq -- at the instance of Chhota Shakeel -- directed them to target Robin as he was among those who had allegedly burnt copies of Quran. Tariq promised the accused Rs. 6 lakhs for the job. The accused conducted a recce of the Dwarka area and on March 3 last year, they shot Deepak mistaking him for Robin. However, Tariq gave only Rs. 5,000 to Saleem and Rs. 10,000 to Sahin saying that they had killed the wrong person. The police said Sahin met Tariq in jail and began working for him after being released. Rahis joined the gang at the instance of Javed, while Saleem brought in Vakil. Three firearms and two motorcycles were recovered from the accused.
