Letters to the Editor
The photograph of H.D. Kumaraswamy with B.S. Yediyurappa (Feb. 9) proves beyond doubt that there are no permanent friends and enemies in politics. Surely the photo will haunt Deve Gowda who became Prime Minister to keep the BJP at bay. Today his son occupies the Chief Minister's chair, thanks to the support of the party he opposed. One only hopes junior Gowda, unlike his father, will be able to complete his term.
S. Aswini Kumar,
That the new coalition received more votes than the combined strength of the BJP and the JD (S) group supporting Mr. Kumarswamy bears testimony to the fact that the people of Karnataka are tired of the stuck record playing the secular tune. While the BJP owes its foray into the south to Mr. Kumaraswamy, the Congress has done badly by losing Karnataka which was its pocket borough. The new coalition is on trial and should live up to the people's expectations by shunning a scramble for power. Any failing would be fatal for both the parties.
H.R. Bapu Satyanarayana,
