Rs.6 crores for Malampuzha tourism projects

PALAKKAD: Principal Secretary for Tourism E.K. Bharat Bhushan has said that Rs.6 crores under the Central and State government schemes is being sanctioned for implementing various projects at the Malampuzha Tourism Centre.

Talking to The Hindu after a meeting of officials of Irrigation, Tourism and Revenue departments at the Malampuzha guesthouse here on Thursday, the Principal Secretary said that for the overall development of the Malampuzha Garden Rs.5 crores would be spent under the Destination Development Plan of the Central Government. The Centre would be funding the entire scheme.

The projects under the Central scheme include musical fountain with viewing gallery, green house, super-modern illumination using laser technology, children's garden, a mini-3D theatre and a bus stand complex.

He said that the sanction for constructing the second phase of the Rock Garden (Rs.47 lakhs) and renovating the existing one (Rs.44.50 lakhs) would be given at a meeting of the Working Group of the State Tourism Department scheduled for February 15.

"The work on the Rock Garden will be done with funding from the State Government," Mr. Bharat Bhushan said. (According to official sources, said the Nek Chand Foundation — Nek Chand Saini designed both the Chandigarh and Malampuzha Rock Gardens — has offered its assistance for the renovation and expansion of the garden.)

He said that the Japanese Garden constructed inside the Malampuzha Garden at a cost of around Rs.49 lakhs would be opened within 15 days.

"The renovation of the Yakshi and Nandi parks in the garden will be taken up at a cost of Rs.95 lakhs immediately," Mr. Bharat Bhushan said.
