Producers, actors back Vijay

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A few days ago, theatre owners in Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts wanted producer S.A. Chandrasekaran of Suriyan Arts to compensate them for the loss incurred by releasing the Tamil film Adhi a day late.

They also warned that if the request was not heeded, they would refuse to release his son actor Vijay's films in future. S.A. Chandrasekaran told the Sangam that as the film was sold outright to a distributor he owed no obligation to the theatre owners. Now, the Tamil Film Producers Council and The Thennindiya Nadigar Sangam have stepped in to support actor Vijay.

They want the Sangam to settle the issue with the distributor who bought the film and not drag Vijay into the issue.

They feel the issue should be settled across the table and not be allowed to go public. It was the outright purchaser-distributor who should be held responsible and not the actor, they contend.
