New Delhi: India and the U.S. on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Arrangement (MoA) for exchange of information, energy data and analysis techniques in the hydrocarbon sector. The arrangement, which is expected to be valid for five years, is to be carried out by the Energy Information Administration under the U.S. Department of Energy and the Petroleum Planning and Analysis cell under the Petroleum Ministry. According to an official press note, the MoA was signed by Petroleum Secretary M.S. Srinivasan and the U.S. Under Secretary of the Department of Energy, David Garman, here.
"Mutual benefit"
The overall objective of cooperation under the arrangement is to establish "for mutual benefit" a reasonably balanced exchange of hydrocarbon sector information to complement the existing hydrocarbon sector statistics and other hydrocarbon sector market information. The improved exchange of information is expected to improve understanding of energy sector issues, enhance public policy making and strengthen the role of the private sector in developing energy resources. Mr. Srinivasan said the agreement would facilitate elaborate exchange of information on the hydrocarbon sector between both countries.
More pacts in offing
Speaking after the signing of the agreement, he said two other agreements with the U.S. are in the offing and would be signed before the end of the month. He said the time had come to be transparent and synergise efforts as one moved towards a global economy.
