Srikakulam: Minister for Revenue and Relief Dharamana Prasada Rao on Thursday said that lift irrigation schemes to bring fallow lands under assured ayacut have been proposed to be taken up in a big way. There were instances where even after completion of Vamsadhara project, farmers with lands along the project were unable to get irrigation water, the Minister said. Mr. Prasada Rao, who had laid foundation stones for two lift irrigation projects on the Left Main Canal of Vamsadhara project, at Ramachandrapuram and Lingalavalasa, addressed a public meeting at Challavanipeta junction. He directed officials to complete the project expeditiously and see that water was available for paddy crop next season. Water from these LI schemes would be available for an ayacut of 3,300 acres covering the villages of Lingalavalasa, Challavanipeta, Daliwada, Jalumuru, Ramachandrapuram, Harikrishnapeta, Jonanki,Venkatapuram and others. The Minister had laid foundation stone for two more LI schemes in Saravakota mandal. MLA D. Krishna Das, who presided, wanted agriculture-based industries to be taken up in the district. The Managing Director of APS Irrigation Development Corporation, R.Venugopala Reddy, said that 120 works with a potential to irrigate 1.85 lakh acres had been taken up in the State.
