CHENNAI: Top seed Samip Mehta of Gujarat battled for an hour and 55 minutes to outlast Maharashtra's Shabaaz Khan 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the boys' under-14 final of the The Hindu-Sportstar AITA junior tennis tournament at the Krishnan Tennis Centre, Kottivakkam, here on Thursday. Samip will meet the second-seeded Sai Karthik from Andhra Pradesh, who beat Mohit Mayur of Tamil Nadu 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(4). The results: Boys (under-14): Semifinals: Samip Mehta (Guj) bt Shabaaz Khan (Mah) 1-6, 6-2, 6-1; Sai Kartik (AP) bt Mohit Mayur (TN) 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(4).
