USA makes Australia sweat

Colombo: Australia was made to sweat by a spirited USA before the two-time champion managed a four-wicket victory in their Under-19 cricket World Cup match here on Thursday.

Australia scored the 149 runs it needed to win in just 24.1 overs, but lost six wickets in the process.

It took 37 from William Sheridan and 31 from Aaron Finch to bring things under control as the pair added 69 and bailed the team out from 53 for four.

Australia emerged the winner of Group B, and it will play the runner-up of Group C, either Sri Lanka or India, in the Super League quarterfinals on Saturday.

In another match at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground, Bangladesh maintained its 100 percent record going into Super League quarterfinals with a comprehensive 171-run win over Uganda.

Batting first, Bangladesh made 255 with captain Mushfiqur Rahim top-scoring with 64 before skittling out the African side for just 84 in 33.4 overs.

At Colombo Cricket Club, Namibia beat Scotland by seven wickets.
