Pharmacists' State meet

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: Minister for Family Welfare Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the 21st State conference of the Kerala Private Pharmacist Association here on February 11. Reception committee chairman of the conference N. Subash said that 500 delegates representing more than 25,000 pharmacists working with private hospitals and medical stores in the State would attend the conference.

He said that while there are only 800 pharmaceutical companies in the United States which controls over 16 per cent of the global pharmacy market, there are more than 20,000 pharmaceutical companies in India which has only less than 1 per cent control over the market. As such, spurious drugs are flooding the Indian market, he alleged.

Kollam district panchayat president K. Devaki will inaugurate a seminar on the ``Challenges faced by the health sector.''

In the evening, members of the association will organise a rally.

On the second day, the delegates session will be inaugurated by the former Minister Kadavoor Sivadasan.
