KHAMMAM: Two persons were charred to death as a car and a tanker containing liquefied petroleum gas went up in flames after a head-on collision near Mandalapadu village on the Khammam-Rajahmundry road on Thursday. The car was burnt completely. The body of the person driving the vehicle was beyond recognition. So was the case with the body of a woman who was travelling in the tanker. The tanker driver suffered severe burns and was admitted to hospital. He was identified as Kannipalli Appala Naidu of Bandudi village in Vizianagaram district Fire tenders and the police put out the fire. The tanker was on its way from Hyderabad to Rajahmundry. Sathupalli DSP Krishnamurthy visited the scene. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded and traffic was cleared by the police only at 5 p.m.
Fire in ITC unit
Some paperboards and cables were gutted when a fire broke out at the ITC BPL unit at Bhadrachalam. Unit vice-president A. V. Rao said there were no casualties. The source of the fire, which broke out near the fourth machine, was yet to be pinpointed.
