AIR Director comes under attack
Staff Reporter
KOZHIKODE:
Black oil was poured on C.P. Rajasekharan, Director of All India Radio (AIR), Kozhikode, as he came out from the Town Hall in Vatakara in the district on Thursday.
A group of persons, said to be Democratic Youth Federation of India workers, shouted slogans against Mr. Rajasekharan after pouring the oil. The incident was reportedly triggered by Mr. Rajasekharan's alleged derogatory remarks against Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan at a meeting here last week.
A host of organisations in AIR and Doordarshan here condemned the attack on Mr. Rajasekharan. These attempts aimed at preventing independent and fearless media activities were condemnable. A cultural collective should be evolved against such incidents, the organisations said.
Special Correspondent adds from Thiruvananthapuram:
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala has described as shameful to literate Kerala the pouring of waste oil on Mr. Rajasekharan.
In a statement here on Thursday, he said that the CPI(M) had been adopting an intolerant stand towards its critics. The party workers had smeared waste oil on Leela Abhilash who had contested against it in Mavelikkara for the municipal elections and had attacked her house.
