Nischinta Amarnath Stella Marian, freelance journalist, has shot into the limelight again. Her essay `We have not inherited the Earth from our Fathers; We have borrowed it from our Children', penned for a competition, has fetched her the Habitat Young Visionary Award 2006. Targeting college students countrywide, the competition conducted by India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, involved a two-tier selection process. Following the preliminary stage, 15 entries were short-listed nationwide. The semi-final rounds entailed an oral presentation of the participants' work followed by a rigorous question and answer session. The other visionaries chosen for the award are Rahul Verma of Kirori Mal College, Delhi, Kakul Gautam, Nayantara and Ruchhika Mohanty of Lady Sri Ram College, New Delhi. All of them are eligible for summer internships in prestigious universities and research organisations. Nischinta's future plans involve pursuing higher studies in Economics or Media and Communications, which she believes would provide a strong foundation for a career in a field in which, she says: `I can achieve my vision'. Nischinta Amarnath has also written The Voyage of Excellence, a book that profiled the lives of India's top 21 women business tycoons, along with Debashish Ghosh. She is now toying with the idea of writing another book.
