CHENNAI:
Provision of videoconferencing facility for conducting the proceedings in the multicrore "fake stamp paper scam" case is engaging the attention of authorities.
Abdul Karim Telgi is among the 11 accused cited in the charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation before a special court here. Taking into consideration the security factors, the central agency requested the State Government to install the videoconferencing system to obviate the need for bringing the accused to court.
Bringing Telgi would mean deployment of a large posse of policemen, sources in the investigating agency told The Hindu. As he was in a Pune prison, he would have to be brought in advance for timely production before the court here. Further, he was wanted in several other "fake stamp paper scam" casesin the country.
The CBI had sought the facility for Nizamuddin, a city-based doctor and Abdul Wahid, besides Telgi.
According to the charge sheet, the mastermind and his gang allegedly received Rs. 6.94 crore as sale proceeds during their operations in Chennai.
