Warrants against Geelani, Malik
Srinagar:
A special TADA Court here has issued non-bailable warrants against the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Ghulam Mohammad Shah and senior separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mohammad Yasin Malik in a case of showing disrespect to the Constitution and torching the national tricolour 18 years ago.
Taking a serious note of non-appearance of the accused in the court, Additional Judge of the Special TADA Court Asmat Hussain Shah issued the NBWs against the three and another separatist leader, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, on Tuesday, court sources said on Thursday.
The police had registered a case against 24 persons, including Mr. Shah, Mr. Geelani, Mr. Malik and Mr. Khan for showing disrespect to the Indian Constitution and torching the national flag during a public meeting organised by the now-defunct Muslim United Front at Iqbal Park on August 20, 1987.
The police filed a charge sheet against the accused in 1987.
