Officials to go ahead with Pushpanjali demolition

Staff Reporter

Court refuses to grant stay

HYDERABAD : In what could be a major boost to the efforts of the district administration and the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, the High Court has refused to grant stay to the demolition of the Pushpanjali complex in Koti.

The court, which was responding to a petition filed by owners of shops in the Pushpanjali complex after the fire accident, has upheld the decision of civic authorities to pull down the building and stated that if the owners themselves did not do it, the Government could go ahead with the demolition process, said Collector Arvind Kumar on Thursday.

The court, taking into note the "ruinous conditions/precarious conditions of the structure pursuant to the fire accident," disposed of the writ petition by the owners, who were up in arms against the move by the MCH and the district administration to demolish at least three floors of the building after Sunday's fire severely damaged several supporting columns of the structure.
