Cylinder blast sparks panic

VISAKHAPATNAM: Confusion prevailed at Anandapuram on the outskirts of the city on Thursday morning following a minor blast in a delivery van carrying empty gas cylinders.

There was some leftover gas in a few cylinders and perhaps due to friction during the movement of the vehicle the cylinders burst causing a minor fire.

The fire was put off by fire tenders. No casualties were reported.

Alcohol claims life

In another incident, a man reportedly died due to overdose of alcohol. P. Venku Naidu, (40), of Akkayyapalem was admitted to a private hospital after he drank heavily.

He died while undergoing treatment on Thursday. The body was sent to the King George Hospital for postmortem.
