HYDERABAD: A worker of Sree Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Company at Jeedimetla died reportedly after inhaling poisonous gases that leaked following an explosion in the reactor late on Wednesday night. The victim, B. Shankar Reddy,40, hailed from Khammam district and was a resident of Raj Reddy Nagar near Jeedimetla. He was on night shift when the mishap took place. Jeedimetla inspector B. Srinivas Reddy said the valve of a reactor's pipe came off due to sudden increase in pressure and exploded.

"Shankar Reddy was near the explosion site and got choked as gas leaked," he explained. Fellow workers of the victim tried to rough up shift in-charge Rama Rao accusing him of negligence but the police pacified them. The victim had an unmarried daughter and a son pursuing college studies, the police said. The factory management announced Rs. 3.5 lakhs compensation to the bereaved family. Officials of the Factories Department visited the factory.
