Kidnapped boy rescued; four held

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Four persons, including a woman, have been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly kidnapping the son of a trader for ransom. The woman was the maternal aunt of the victim.

According to the police, Kale Khan, a resident of Old Mustafabad in North-East Delhi, had lodged a complaint with the Gokulpuri police that his son, Suhail, had been kidnapped from outside his school on Tuesday. A case of kidnapping was registered and investigations taken up.

On Wednesday, Kale Khan, a trader, received a ransom call on his mobile phone in which Rs. 5 lakhs were demanded around 1 p.m. He got another call around 3-15 p.m. in which the caller asked him to keep the ransom amount near Satyam Theatre in Loni around 4 p.m.

A police team reached the spot and a polythene bag with `currency notes' was kept near one of the walls of the theatre, as asked by the suspects. Sometime later, when two young men came to pick up the bag they were arrested.

The accused, identified as Salim and Ibrahim, revealed that a woman, Reena, and another person, Iqbal, were also involved in the conspiracy.

At their instance, the police recovered Suhail from the house of Shokin, brother-in-law of Iqbal, from a village at Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. Shokin was also arrested. Subsequently, the police also arrested Reena. However, Iqbal managed to escape.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that Kale Khan had struck a deal worth Rs. 7 lakhs to sell a plot of land. Reena, Suhail's maternal aunt, knew about this and hatched the conspiracy with Iqbal. Iqbal roped in Shokin, Salim and Ibrahim into the conspiracy. On Tuesday, Reena went to the school and took Suhail on the pretext of taking him home but handed him to her accomplices who took him to Baghpat.
