A ship, an admiral and an island

Special Correspondent

Kochi: The Southern Naval Command's Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice-Admiral SCS Bangara on Friday commissioned a ship christened INS Bangaram. "This occasion is a particularly happy one for us,'' Vice-Admiral Bangara said. ``But I assure you that this has got nothing to do with the ship assuming a name very similar to that of the commanding-in-chief," he said.

INS Bangaram, which belongs to the Bangaram class of warships, is named after the Bangaram island in Lakshadweep. It will be used for patrolling the Lakshadweep islands as well as the Kerala coast.
