Scientific research

The editorial, `Science journals and safeguards,' (Feb. 10), highlights many issues surrounding the scientific community. To succeed, a researcher is always in a rat race to publish more. In such a situation, quality comes under pressure from the need to ensure quantity. The curriculum in technical schools almost never has any lessons on ethics and integrity in a research environment. Lastly, the need is for a worldwide governing body on science and research with regulations in place.
