`Sporting spirit is what matters'

VGTM-UDA Vice-Chairman inaugurates cricket tourney for schools

    VIJAYAWADA: Winning or losing hardly matters in the sporting arena and what matters is the playing the game with a sporting spirit, said Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority Vice-Chairman Durga Das here on Friday.

    Speaking at the inaugural function of the Krishna District Cricket Association's inter-schools league tournament at IGMC Stadium, Mr. Das appreciated the efforts of the KDCA for conducting competitive cricket tournaments for schoolchildren in the district.

    KDCA has been organising school league for the past 10 years and Nori Chandrasekhar, a life member of the association, has been sponsoring the tournament since 2001 in memory of his late father Nori Sivaramakrishna. As many as 16 schools, including those from various parts of the district were participating in the tournament. The teams have been divided into four pools and one team would qualify for the super league from each pool.

    Gautham Public School, V.P. Siddhartha Public School, Seventh Day Adventist High School, Sri Kakatiya High School, N.S.M. Public School, Noble Kids High School, V.M.C. High School, Ravindra Bharathi, Siddhartha (EM) School (all from Vijayawada), Flora School (Vuyuuru), Gautham Concept (Gudivada), Brilliant High School, Vignan Vihar (Enikepadu), H.M.K. Public School (Gosasla), Kumar (EM) School (Nuzvid) were some of the schools taking part.

    Venue

    All the matches would be held at Siddhartha Medical College grounds from Sunday.

    Krishna District Cricket Association vice-president V. Prabhu Prasad and joint secretary A. Yella Rao were present.
