Varsity announces annual exams in May

Bangalore: Bangalore University has announced that annual examinations for BA, BFA, B.Sc. (FAD and Speech and Hearing), BSLPA, B.Com., BBM, BHM, B.Lib.Sc., degree courses (I, II and III annual scheme) and II and IV semester undergraduate courses and I and VI BCA courses will be held in May 2006. The detailed timetable will be notified later.

The last date for paying examining fee without fine is February 21 and with a fine of Rs. 100, February 28. Application forms can be obtained from college principals and the Directorate of Correspondence Courses. The applications have to be submitted through the college/institution concerned.

All principals and heads of institutions have been asked to forward the applications to the University's Registrar (Evaluation) before March 7. — Special Correspondent

Yediyurappa to be in Hubli tomorrow

HUBLI: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will be visiting Hubli on Sunday, according to a press release. Mr. Yediyurappa, who will be visiting Hubli for the first time after assuming charge as Deputy Chief Minister, will reach Hubli via Gadag at 1.30 p.m. He will visit the Moorusavira Math and then leave for Hirekerur in Haveri district at 3 p.m., the release said. — Staff Correspondent

Training course for health assistants

BANGALORE: To address the needs of domestic healthcare, the Indian Red Cross Society, Bangalore, and Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital will start a "Home Health Assistant Training Course" from April.

N.G. Narayana, general secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Bangalore, told presspersons here that the course is aimed at training educated but unemployed people to provide healthcare at home to those in need of it. Candidates, aged between 18 and 29, should have passed the 10th standard to be eligible for the six-month course. The course fee is Rs. 1,500 and the application fee Rs. 100. The last date for submission of applications is February 28. Conference on human resources

BANGALORE: The Department of Management Studies in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) and the State chapter of the National Institute of Personnel Management are jointly organising "International HR Confluence 2006" for business leaders, from February 16 to 18, at the J.N. Governor mourns Capt. Mani

BANGALORE: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi has mourned the death of Captain V.V.K. Mani, Consultant to, and former Regional Manager of, The Hindu .

In a condolence message, the Governor said, "I had known Capt. Mani for several years as a Rotarian and active member of the executive committee of the Bangalore Management Association." Capt. Mani had met him on one or two occasions to invite him to programmes organised by The Hindu and other organisations.

Capt. Mani was a selfless social worker and his role in bringing out a `Directory of Blood Donors' is noteworthy. He championed the cause of donor organ transplants. He was a good human being and a lovable person, Mr. Chaturvedi said. — Special Correspondent

20 sheep burnt alive

BIJAPUR: Sheep and poultry were burnt alive when a hut and adjoining cowshed caught fire at Shirguppi village in Bilagi taluk of Bagalkot district on Friday. The reason for the accident is yet to be ascertained. According to property owner Ibrahim Saifuddin Shirsangi, 20 sheep were charred and a few quintals of foodgrains lost. The revenue authorities have estimated the loss at Rs. 25,000. — Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Veteran actor K.S. Ashwath will participate as "Angaladalli Tingala Vyakti," programme being organised by the Mysore District Kannada Sahitya Parishath on February 14. A press release said Mr. Ashwath, 81, who has acted in 370 films, has been selected to participate in the second programme of the series. Director H.S. Umesh will also participate. Results announced

DHARWAD: The Karnataka Public Service Commission has announced the list of the candidates who have passed the departmental examination in Kannada language and qualified for the viva voce at the Central office, regional offices and offices of the DDPI and DIET Principals. The results can also be viewed on the website http://kpsc.kar.nic.in, a release said.

The viva voce will be held in the Bangalore Divisional Centre on February 13, at Belgaum on Feb. 15 and at Gulbarga and Mysore regional centres on Feb. 18, the release said. — Staff Correspondent

PANAJI: The Goa Government will invite international bids to set up a cruise terminal in its inland waterways.
