Three Delhi golfers in semifinals

MUMBAI: Delhi's Manav Jaini defeated Western India Golf champion Manav Das in the matchplay quarterfinals at the par-70 Bombay Presidency Golf Club course on Friday in the Royal Challenge 105th all India amateur golf matchplay tournament.

In the morning, Jaini sent out Mumbai caddie-turned-amateur Anil Mane. Two more Delhi golfers, Himmat Singh Rai and Vikram Rana, will contest the other matchplay semifinal.

Chakola, three-up against Saurav Bahuguna after the first nine, cruised into the semifinal with a commanding show on the back nine, extending lead to four. Rana proved too accomplished for England's Tom Haylock, six up by the 13th hole. Himmat Rai moved three up against Delhi's Jasjeet Singh on 16th hole in fourth quarterfinal.

The results (quarterfinals): Vikram Rana (Delhi) bt Tom Haylock (England) 6 up/13th hole; Himmat Rai (Del) bt Jasjeet Singh (Del) 3 up/16th hole. Manav Jaini (Delhi) bt Manav Das (Punjab) 3 up/16th hole; Joseph Chakola (Coimbatore) bt Saurav Bahuguna 4 up/15th hole.

Pre-quarterfinals: Manav Das (Pun) bt Gaganjeet Bhullar (Pun) 3 up/16th hole; Manav Jaini (Del) bt Anil Mane (Mumbai) 7 up/12th hole; Saurav Bahuguna bt Arshpreet Thind (Udaipur) 3 up/16th hole; Joseph Chakola (Coimbatore) bt Tom Sherreared (Eng) 1 up/18 th hole; Himmat Rai (Del) bt Shaurya Singh (Del) 19th hole; Jasjeet Singh (Del) bt Mithun Perera (Sri Lanka) 2 up/17th hole; Tom Haylock (Eng) bt J.M.D. Indika (Sri Lanka) 4 up/15 th hole; Vikram Rana (Del) bt Raj Randhawa 5 up/14th hole.
