ANANTAPUR: Some 50 persons, mostly women, of Vasapuram village in Yellanur mandal on Friday complained to district police officials that the local police were harassing, seeking the whereabouts of the alleged killers of two Congress activists on February 2. As DIG of Police of Anantapur Range N. Jayarami Reddy and Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain were not available in their office when the villagers went to meet them they represented their problem to Additional Superintendent of Police (OSD) G. Vijay Kumar. They were not allowed to enter the OSD's office premises as the gates were closed.
Complaint to OSD
From outside the gates, the villagers complained to the OSD that the local police led by Circle Inspector B. Vijay Kumar, SI J.V. Sivanarayana and constable Nagabhushanam were reportedly harassing even the families who were in no way concerned with the murder. They complained that the police had already taken 12 persons into custody in the double murder case and some of them were allegedly tonsured and taken round the village with a warning that all others involved would meet the same fate, if they failed to surrender themselves to the district police immediately.
Memorandum submitted
Close associates of Tadipatri Market Yard Chairman B. Narayana Reddy and followers of Minister for Panchayat Raj and Endowments J.C. Diwakar Reddy--Bhaskar Reddy and Narayanaswamy-- were allegedly hacked to death by their Telugu Desam Party rivals on February 2, when they were returning to Vasapuram after attending the public meeting of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi at Bandlapalli. The two deceased Congress activists were allegedly involved in the murder of TDP activist Kedar Naidu in Anantapur in December 2004. Wife of Kedar Naidu Jayaprada, his brother Narendra Naidu's wife Hemalatha submitted a memorandum to the OSD, G. Vijay Kumar.
