Reliance Infocomm launches pre-paid fixed wireless phone

    CHENNAI : To promote penetration of landline phones, Reliance Infocomm on Friday launched pre-paid "Fixed Wireless Phones" (FWP) in 330 towns in Tamil Nadu through the Wireless in Local Loop (WLL).

    Explaining the features of the pre-paid FWPs, which could be owned like a consumer durable through its retail outlets or web worlds, V.G. Somasekhar, CEO, Reliance Infocomm, Tamil Nadu, said the company has introduced two models, LSP-400 and LSP-350, which are equipped with SMS, polyphonic ring tones, phone book, voice mails, call history, three-way conferencing facility, speed dial, call wait/hold, call restrict/lock/ divert facility and alarm. The R-Connect features have been provided in the LSP-350 model to facilitate faster access to the Internet.

    Aimed at reaching the "unreached," the FWPs can be purchased with a one-time payment of Rs.3, 305. The customers need not pay rental for continuing to receive free incoming calls. There is also an entry-level instrument for Rs.1, 600. For the outgoing calls, the company has come out with a range of recharge vouchers, beginning from the start-up value of Rs.275 to Rs.1, 080. Customers can check their pre-paid balances by dialling *394 and access customer service executives by dialling *396 with the help of its 24-hour back-up facility.

    At present, the subscriber base of Reliance Infocomm's FWP is 82,000 in Tamil Nadu, as against the nationwide figure of 23.6 lakhs. The company would launch a campaign to promote the FWPs.
