Advances in printing technology showcased at `e-Age 2006'

Barnala hopes exhibition will open new avenues for entrepreneurs

CHENNAI: Digital revolution in the new generation printing technology, automatic book binding machines, thermal lamination machine, environment friendly chemicals, soya-based inks, flex printers and multi-colour digital printing machines for large hoardings are on display at `e-Age 2006,' an international exhibition of printing, packaging and allied industries.

Organised by the Madras Printers and Lithographers Association (MPLA) at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, the five-day exhibition has provided an opportunity to the manufacturers to showcase the advances made in the printing industry.

More than 90 companies, including Mitsubishi, Lipi Marketing, Print Promotion, Hewlett Packard, EFI and Adobe, are taking part.

Anu Varghese, conference chairman, said while exhibitors were displaying their products, showing emerging trends, speakers were explaining the shape of things to come and how the printers had to keep themselves abreast of the fast changing technology.

Inaugurating the second edition of the exhibition, Governor Surjit Singh Barnala said he was confident that it would bring together technology and entrepreneurs. "I hope the exhibition opens new avenues and opportunities for the entrepreneurs to expand their business. I am sure it will provide ample opportunity for the entrepreneurs with planning, consultancy and project management, investments and business opportunities and availability of expert advice."

The Governor said he was also happy to note that the MPLA was planning to set up a training centre for excellence in printing near Chennai.

P. Chander, exhibition chairman, and R. Udhaya Kumar, honorary secretary, MPLA, said the event would also act as a buyer-seller meet. It would generate business worth over Rs. 200 crore.
