Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: G. Sukumaran, secretary of the Pondicherry unit of the Federation for People's Rights, has called upon the Pondicherry Administration to take steps to end the government staff strike. In a statement he said the ministerial staff stir had hit work in the last two months. The Government had conceded eight of their nine demands. Mr. Sukumaran said the demand sought could not be sanctioned by the Administration on its own. In spite of this, the employees had struck work. Mr. Sukumaran charged that the staff had gone on strike "with the idea" that the government could be pressured with Assembly elections round the corner. He appealed to the Administration to try alternative methods to ensure services to the people. If the government failed to initiate action then the Federation would consider resorting to legal measures in public interest.
